I’m Ali J, a professional concert and live music photographer based in Nottingham, serving performers, ensembles and arts organisations across Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Rutland and the wider East Midlands. I specialise in capturing the energy, emotion and beauty of live music — from orchestras and choirs to festivals and chamber concerts.
Photographing musicians is one my favourite creative challenges. The instruments, the performances and the fleeting glances between players caught in the music all desrve to be captured in images that feel alive and full of the spirit they bring to the live performances.
It is always a privilege to photograph musicians and something I look forward to tremendously when I get the chance. The instruments themselves are beautiful to capture and when they are played with such expertise and distinction, it is so very easy to get lost in the music. There has been many a time when I’ve had to draw back and remind myself I’ve a task to do, attempting to capture the beauty and energy in a frozen, silent image.
